After several days of painstaking work, I finally moved from WordPress to Hugo. Due to the fact that my server is very slow, I think I can focus on writing offline and concentrate on content, rather than adjusting features. There are many features that I find unnecessary, such as commentator ranking. The tree map of categories is also not that useful, because it’s hard to maintain the database. Last week I went through a serious problem of my server, on which my website runs. It started with the problem of the version of PHP. The edition of the current PHP is very old and it couldn’t support the running of some plugins. Then I tried to install a new version of PHP, but it didn’t work. When I tried to uninstall the old version, the server crashed and could not be restarted due to an error called “kernel panic”. I’ve done my best to fix it myself until midnight. It’s useless. I could only ask other people for help. The technical staff couldn’t solve it either, but they helped me to backup the data. It’s a very tedious experience and I could restore my server after several days. Finally, I used the backup data and restored my website. ...
Changed the title of the English website.
Added progress bars and more social icons for home page. Added the feature which can share posts on Mastodon.
Totally separated my blog into two subsites– English site and Chinese site. It’s more convenient for viewers to choose their familiar language. Added the language switcher menu.
Removed some plugins from my blog. Added options for foreign languages. Added the Mastodon icon and removed the YouTube icon. Tried out Mastodon, a decentralized social networking software. I think it is a good alternative to Twitter.
